Fruits in due season

Tue, 2 Dec 2025 15:08

I was on the road today, looking out through the car window, lost in my thoughts. But something pulled me to the trees.

Different shapes. Different heights. Different colors. Some full and deep green, others light lime, and some completely bare.

And suddenly it hit me: “All these trees bring forth their fruits and flourish in different seasons.”

At the same time, another thought came: “Christians are the same. We’re many, but our spiritual growth is different. Our fruits come in different seasons.”

But then another question rose in me: “Do the trees ever look at each other and envy? Do they ever wonder, ‘When will I grow that tall? When will I look like that?’”

Of course not.

Yet we do.

We forget what God said in Isaiah:

“At the right time, I the Lord will make it happen.”

We want instant growth. Instant results. Instant maturity. But the One who formed us knows the right time for every fruit, every step, every promotion, every spiritual gift.

A two-year-old doesn’t see an eight-year-old and cry, “Mommy, I want to be eight right now.”

Growth doesn’t work like that. Neither does spiritual growth.

We must go through our stages, and then God says: “Take now you’re ready.”

I remember something Pastor Setson said (paraphrased) “Some of the growth or blessings you’re praying for can actually crush you if they come too early.”

That’s why comparing ourselves is dangerous. We all grow at different speeds. Some might flourish earlier, some later but what matters is keeping our eyes on God.

He is the Author and the Finisher.

He chose you.

He knows exactly when to release what you’re asking for.

The field is wide.We are laborers with different callings, different roles, different responsibilities. We cannot all stand in the same place or operate on the same level.

The command is simple: Make disciples. Share the gospel. Obey God. Not to sit around wondering, “When will I reach their level?”That’s questioning God.

And the truth is sometimes what we desire requires holiness we’re not yet willing to walk in. You cannot hold onto fleshly desires with one hand and expect God’s blessings in the other. It doesn’t work like that.

It becomes spiritual adultery being in a covenant with your Groom, Christ, yet reaching for replacements to satisfy what only growth in Him can give.

So wait on Him. Trust Him. Walk with Him. And at the right time…He will hasten it.
